Women's hockey falls on the road at Lindenwood

ST. CHARLES, MO – The RIT women's hockey team (9-14-4, 5-8-0 CHA) suffered a 3-2 loss to host Lindenwood University (6-17-2, 2-10-1 CHA) from the Lindenwood Ice Arena Friday evening.

Abby Davies (Ashton, Ontario/Ottawa Lady Senators) scored her first collegiate goal to open the scoring for the Tigers, while Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) added a third period goal that tied the game at 2-2. Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) took the loss in net, stopping 18 of 21 shots.

Megan Wagner and Kirsten Martin scored second period goals for the Lady Lions, while Nikki Friesen broke a 2-2 tie with the game-winning marker with 13:25 left in regulation. Sophie Wolf made 25 saves to pick up the win in net.

RIT out-shot Lindenwood, 27-21. RIT was 0-for-3 on the power-play, while Lindenwood finished 1-for-2.

"We have to move forward and play our game that has brought us success," said Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach Chad Davis. "We are looking to step up tomorrow and make it happen."

Davies would poke in a loose puck for her first goal after Wolf made a save on the initial chance by Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers). Jade Mancini (Burlington, Ontario/Bishop Tonnos) also assisted on the goal.

Wagner and Martin would score three minutes apart early in the second period to give Lindenwood a 2-1 lead. Gout evened the score at 2-2 for the Tigers just 2:35 into the third period, her fourth goal of the season, with assists going to Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) and Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep).

RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 12-10-5. The Tigers won both earlier meetings this season by scores of 5-2 and 3-2 from the Polisseni Center on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

Despite the loss, RIT remains fourth in the CHA standings with 10 points, one ahead of Penn State, who is fifth.

RIT and Lindenwood will wrap up the weekend and regular season series Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. EST from Lindenwood Ice Arena.
