TROY, NY -- The No. 6 RIT (6-10-2) men's soccer team and No. 2 Hobart College (13-4-2) played to a 1-1 draw in the Liberty League semifinal Saturday evening at Rensselaer. The Statesmen advanced to the title game, 4-3 on penalty kicks.
Shots were 15-13 in favor of Hobart. The Tigers took three corner kicks to eight for the Statesmen.
Bret Kaemmerlen (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) scored for RIT, while
Mark-Vincent Sansone (Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) had an assist.
Will Sokol (Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) made two saves. Patrick Kyle tallied for Hobart, and Brian Salazar made six saves for Hobart.
Kyle gave Hobart a lead on his goal in the 17th minute off assists from Kyle Mangold and Kye Walsh. The Tigers equalized in the 29th minute on Kaemmerlen's first collegiate goal off an assist from Sansone.
After a scoreless second half and two 10 minute overtime periods, the game remained knotted at 1-1.
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) missed his penalty kick to begin the shootout. August Martin converted his chance for Hobart, and
Randy Dickersbach (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) tied the shootout at 1-1 with his conversion for the Tigers. After Binjo Emmanuel converted his,
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) scored on his attempt to make it 2-2. Mangold gave the Statesmen a 3-2 edge with his conversion, but
Karl McNulty (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) answered for RIT to tie the shootout at 3-3. Nick Wigglesworth scored his attempt to give Hobart a 4-3 lead, and
Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) missed his attempt to advance Hobart to the title game.
Hobart will face Clarkson University in the Liberty League Championship on Sunday at Rensselaer.
