POUGHKEEPSIE, NY -- The RIT (11-3-2, 6-2-1 Liberty League) women's soccer team was defeated 3-1 at Vassar College (8-7-1, 6-3-0 Liberty League) in the regular season finale Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss the Tigers finish Liberty League play in second place and receive a bye in next week's Liberty League Tournament.
Shots were 19-15 in favor of Vassar. The Tigers took six corner kicks to three for the Brewers.
Kayla Grossman (Sewell, NJ/Clearview Regional) scored for RIT, while
Jordyn Turner (Fairfax, VA/W.T. Woodson) had an assist.
Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) took the loss in goal for RIT, making nine saves. Ashley Ferry and Emma Tanner each scored for Vassar, and Camelia Manring got the win net.
Ferry gave Vassar a 1-0 lead on her goal off an assist from Tanner in the 38th minute. Grossman tied the score at 1-1 just before halftime with the assist going to Turner. Tanner gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead on her goal from Emma Trasatti in the 58th minute, while a RIT own-goal in the 79th minute made it a 3-1 final.
RIT returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 7, in the Liberty League Tournament and will face either Vassar or Union in the semifinals at William Smith College.
