ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (6-9-1, 4-5-0 Liberty League) men's soccer team was defeated by Vassar College (9-7-1, 6-3-0 Liberty League) 2-1 in overtime on Senior Day at RIT Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Tigers will be the sixth seed in next week's Liberty League Tournament. Vassar's Barratt Heitmann scored the game-winner off a free kick in the 97th minute.
Shots were 14-6 in favor of Vassar. The Tigers took four corner kicks to five for the Brewers.
Nate Verso (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area) scored for RIT, while
Gaurav Cheema (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) took the loss in net, making eight saves. Eamon Geraghty and Heitmann scored for Vassar. Eric Wnorowski picked up the win in net for the Brewers, making one save.
Verso gave RIT a 1-0 lead on his blast from 20-yards out that found the top-right corner. Geraghty tied the game when he converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute, and Heitmann scored from 22-yards out through traffic on a free kick.
RIT qualifies for the Liberty League Tournament for the first time since 2017. The Tigers will face No. 3 Vassar in the first round on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at a time to be determined.
