WILLIAMSPORT, PA -- The RIT (10-8) women's volleyball team defeated Nazareth College (25-20, 25-17, 25-19), 3-0 and Marywood University (25-9, 25-16, 25-19), 3-0 at the Lycoming Tip-Off Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Versus Nazareth,
Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) and
Katie Hobler (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each had a double-double. Higgins finished with 10 kills and 16 digs, while Hobler had 11 kills and 10 digs.
Brianna Ellis (Wayne, PA/Radnor) handed out 31 assists, while
Kelly Waters (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added nine kills and two assisted blocks.
Kiana Walker (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) and
Maria Simonetti (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) each had 11 digs for the Tigers.
"We played a complete match," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes. "Our defensive discipline was possibly the best we have played this season."
In the second match against Marywood, Hobler led the Tigers with 12 kills, hitting .476. Waters tallied nine kills, while Higgins finished with seven kills and seven digs.
Sasha Mekker (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) had 25 assists, while Simonetti led RIT with eight digs.
"We played confident today," said Lodes. "It was great to have contributions from many players. I thought we blocked very well in stretches today."
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8, when the Tigers host SUNY Geneseo at 6 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium.
