Women's volleyball wins in five sets at St. Lawrence

CANTON, NY -- The RIT (16-9, 4-2 Liberty League) women's volleyball team won a critical Liberty League match with a five-set win at St. Lawrence University Friday afternoon. The Tigers won the first set 25-22, dropped the second set 12-25 and came back to win set three 25-21. The Saints won set four 27-25 and the Tigers won the deciding set 15-12.

Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) led RIT with 22 kills and 19 digs. Katie Hobler (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) added 14 kills and 16 digs, while Sasha Mekker (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) finished with 35 assists and 15 digs. Maria Simonetti (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led the Tigers with 26 digs, while Kiana Walker (Lloydminster, Alberta/Lloydminster Comprehensive) finished with 14 digs.

Natalie Piper led St. Lawrence with 15 kills and 19 digs. Amanda Teppo and Julia Wagner each had 10 kills, while Jenna Britton finished with 40 assists for the Saints.

"There was great energy in the building," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "I thought we did a really good job of staying composed most of the match. To have our team match their energy and stay purposeful when St. Lawrence had some momentum was great to be a part of."

RIT returns home to face Liberty League rival Clarkson University on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 4 p.m. from Clark Gymnasium. The Tigers will honor the class of 2020 prior to the match versus the Golden Knights.
