MOON TOWNSHIP, PA – The RIT women's hockey team (9-12-4, 5-6-0 CHA) suffered its second consecutive loss, falling at Robert Morris University (11-11-4, 9-2-1 CHA), 2-0 from Colonials Arena Saturday.
Emily Curlett scored both goals for Robert Morris, a power-play marker late in the second period and empty-netter in the final minute of regulation. Lauren Bailey stopped all 14 shots she faced for the shutout.
RIT goaltender
Terra Lanteigne (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia/Charles P. Allen) was excellent in net for the Tigers, stopping 35 of 36 shots.
Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) led RIT with three shots on goal, while
Brittney Gout (Caledon, Ontario/Brampton Canadettes) and
Ellie Larson (Hutchinson, MN/Hutchinson Tigers) each had two.
Robert Morris out-shot RIT, 37-14. The Colonials were 1-for-6 with the power-play, while RIT was 0-for-3.
"These weekends will make us a better team as we trend towards playoffs, we know we have to win the special teams battle," said Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach
Chad Davis. "We are getting elite goaltending and need to get back to attacking the net offensively. We look forward to getting prepared for Thursday's game."
Lanteigne had to come up big in the opening period, stopping all 16 Robert Morris shots as the game was scoreless after 20 minutes of play.
RIT had a golden chance on a power-play in the closing minutes of the second period, but Bailey made a tremendous save on
Logan Land (Turkey Point, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic) from the doorstep to keep the game scoreless.
Robert Morris would open the scoring on a power-play of its own with 15 seconds left in the period, as Curlett fired in a cross-ice feed from Jaycee Gebhard past Lanteigne for her seventh goal of the season.
Curlett would close out the scoring with 36 seconds left, tallying an empty-netter for his second goal of the game and eighth of the season.
The Colonials won all four regular season meetings between the two schools in 2018-19, scoring an empty-netter in all four contests.
RIT will return to action on Thursday, Jan. 31 with a home game against Mercyhurst University that gets underway at 5 p.m. from the Gene Polisseni Center. This game was originally supposed to be played on Jan. 19, but was postponed due to Winter Storm Harper.
