DALLAS, PA -- The RIT (2-1-0) women's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime at No. 20 Misericordia University (3-0-0) Friday evening. Kaylee Sturans scored in the 106th minute off an assist from Michaela Fasolino to give the Cougars the win.
Shots were 23-14 in favor of Misericordia, while each team fired six shots on target. The Tigers took six corner kicks to three for the Cougars.
Ingrida Ivaska (Gibsonia, PA/Pine-Richland) took the loss in net for RIT, making four saves. Alexis Benedetto got the win for Misericordia, making five saves.
Piper Zimmerman (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) had a chance for RIT in the 12th minute on her shot from distance that was saved by Benedetto.
Rebecca Hext (Ottawa, ON/Longfields Davidson Heights) had a shot for the Tigers from 25 yards out moments later that Benedetto lunged at and stopped.
Ivaska had to make one save in the first half on a shot from Kenzi Peiffer in the 13th minute.
Misericordia broke through on a goal from Jeanna Orfanos in the 53rd minute. She scored on a floating shot over the head of Ivaska to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers evened the game at 1-1 in the 76th minute when
Danielle Losquadro (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) scored on a diving header off an assist from
Jessica Jones (Holden, MA/Wachusett). The Tigers had a great chance to take the lead with six minutes to play in regulation.
Marla Roberts (Penfield, NY/Home Schooled) fired a shot from 25 yards out that was dipping underneath the cross bar. Benedetto had to tip the shot over the net to preserve the tie. Ivaska made a similar save for RIT a minute earlier on a shot from Jordyn Martini.
In the first overtime, RIT put the pressure on Misericordia, firing three shots on target. Zimmerman,
Lauren Chester (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) and Roberts each tested Benedetto. In the second overtime Sturans scored on a nice move to beat Ivaska off an assist from Fasolino to give the Cougars the win.
RIT returns to action on Sunday, September 9 when the Tigers fave Farmingdale State at 1 p.m, in Dallas, Pa.
