Zablonski breaks pair of records as Tigers fall to William Smith in Liberty League Tourney

Zablonski won 14th dual match and 20th overall, both single-season school marks

ITHACA, NY – The fifth-seeded RIT women's tennis team (10-7) had its 2017-18 season come to an end, falling to No. 4 seed William Smith College (12-6), 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the Liberty League Championship from the Reis Tennis Center on Friday.

Freshman Kristen Zablonski (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) broke the RIT single-season record with her 14th dual win and tied RIT's single-season record for singles wins with 20, as she secured RIT's lone point with a victory at fourth singles. Zablonski knocked off Charlotte Engelbrecht, 6-2, 6-1. She finishes her season with a 20-4 mark.

The Herons opened the contest by winning all three doubles matches. Zablonski and Claire Casalnova (Mars, PA/Pine Richland) were locked in a fierce battle against Kate Foley and Allie Perron, before falling by a score of 8-6.

Zablonski's singles win got RIT back into the match at 3-1, before Foley earned a win at third singles and Dina Rigas clinched the fifth and decisive point with a win at fifth singles.

Despite the loss, RIT had one of its finest seasons of the millennium. The Tigers finished with 10 dual victories, most since winning 12 matches during the 2002-03 season.
