ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY – The RIT baseball team (6-8, 3-5 Liberty League) dropped a pair of games at Liberty League foe Bard College (10-11, 4-4 Liberty League) from Honey Field on Sunday afternoon. Bard won game one, 5-4 in eight innings and rallied from 1-0 down to score twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to win 2-1 in game two.
Bard rallied from 4-2 down in game one and won the game on a walk-off hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Tigers left 13 runners on base.
Waterman was 3-for-5 with a stolen base in game one for RIT.
Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) and
Benjamin Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) each reached base three times and scored once.
Jameson Moran (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) started on the mound for the Tigers and gave up seven hits and four runs (all earned) in 4 2/3 innings.
Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) came on in relief and allowed four hits, while striking out three batters in 2 1/3 innings in the loss.
Rory Maglich was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Mike Pizzuto went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead Bard. Zach Hayes and Alex Bunnell combined to throw four scoreless innings in relief for the Raptors. Bunnell earned the win.
Trailing 2-0, the Tigers scored all four runs in the fifth inning on the strength of three hits and two walks to take a 4-2 lead. Bard came right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.
In game two,
Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) led off the second inning with an infield single and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by
Dom Scialabba (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick). That lead looked to be safe, as starting pitcher
Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) cruised through the first six innings, allowing just a lead-off single by Matt Lasky in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Bard would get to Zeglen in the seventh. After a flyout to open the inning, Dillon Daine singled and moved to third on a double by Pizzuto. After Maglich was intentionally walked to load the bases, Lee Perry supplied the walk-off single, scoring two to give Bard the doubleheader sweep.
Frank Ortega earned the complete-game win on the mound for Bard, scattering seven hits and three walks, while striking out three batters. Zeglen took the tough-luck loss, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out six batters.
The Tigers left nine runners on base in game two.
The Tigers lead the all-time series between the two schools, 12-3. Yesterday, the two teams split a doubleheader, with Bard winning game one, 2-1 and RIT rolling to 13-3 victory in game two.
RIT is back in action on Wednesday afternoon as Liberty League foe Clarkson University comes to town for a pair of games. First pitch from Tiger Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m.
