ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 1 RIT (10-0, 3-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team defeated Bard College (2-5, 0-3 Liberty League) 24-2 in Liberty League action from RIT's Turf Field Saturday afternoon.
Shots were 46-18 in favor of the Tigers, who won the ground ball battle 51-26. The Tigers won 21-of-30 face-offs, went 19-of-19 on clearing attempts and scored on both their man-up attempts.
Kyle Killen (Peterborough, Ontario/Crestwood Secondary) and
Jon Sickler (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) each had three goals.
Andrew Doktor (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) and
Adam Wolf (Oakville, Ontario/Everest Academy) each had two goals and two assists, while
Connor Pupp (Calgary, Alberta/Lord Beaverbrook) tallied two goals and an assist. In all, 14 different Tigers scored a goal, including the first collegiate tallies from
Alex Przybilla (Rogers, MN/Rogers), Pupp,
Jordan Trottier (Ottawa, Ontario/West Carleton) and
Andrew Powlin (Penfield, NY/Penfield).
Nick Montemorano (Victor, NY/Victor) won eight face-offs and had eight ground balls.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) got the win in net, making two saves in 17 minutes of action.
Holden McDonald (Toronto, Ontatrio/St. Mary Catholic) made a save, while
Drew Hutchison (Otonabee, Ontario/The Hill Academy) made four saves.
RIT scored seven goals in the first quarter, and six in the second to lead 13-0 at the break. Killen, Tandy and
Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary) each scored two goals apiece in the first half to pace a balanced Tigers offense. Blake Burnley put Bard on the scoreboard with his goal at 11:27 of the third quarter off an assist from Emmet O'Connell. Burnley scored the opening goal of the fourth quarter on a feed from Jeremy Awe.
The Tigers scored 20 goals for the fourth time in 2018 and tallied at least 18 times for the fifth straight game. RIT is now off to a 10-0 start for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, April 4 when the Tigers host No.14 SUNY Cortland at 7 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field. The Tigers will be collecting donations to benefit the HEADstrong Foundation an organization that helps families who have been impacted by cancer. Fans, family, friends and alumni of RIT lacrosse can
make a donation to HEADstrong prior to and after the game. There will be a table set up at the entrance to RIT's Turf Field to take donations the evening of the game. It is all part of USILA/HEADstrong Awareness month.
