Capra ties single-game program record, leading baseball to win over Cazenovia

Sophomore shortstop became the 19th player to hit two triples in a game

SYRACUSE, NY – The RIT baseball team (3-3) played its first game in two weeks, rolling to a 7-2 win over Cazenovia College (4-6) at Onondaga Community College on Wednesday afternoon. Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) tied a program record with two triples in the win.

The Tigers scored two runs in the second, three more in the fourth and two in the sixth inning to build a 7-1 lead. Cazenovia would add an unearned run in the eighth inning.

All seven of RIT's runs were scored with two outs.

Capra was 2-for-4 with the two triples, three runs scored and a run batted in. He became the 19th player in program history to hit two triples in a game. Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Kyle Terzini (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

RIT used eight pitchers in the win and combined to strike out nine batters. Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland) started, firing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Collin Reformat (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Bryce Jellinick (Grand Island, NY/Grand Island), Michael Campbell (Honeoye Falls, NY/McQuaid Jesuit), Nick Claver (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Capra were excellent on the mound, combining to allow just six hits. Bouchard and Capra struck out a pair of batters apiece.

Dave Gabrielson and Chris Schad had two hits apiece for the Wildcats. Jake Bianchi and Tyler Markel struck out a pair of batters apiece.

RIT is now 20-2 all-time against Cazenovia. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 2012.

RIT is right back in action on Friday and Saturday with a pair of doubleheaders at Union College to kick off Liberty League play. RIT and Union play two games on Friday, starting at 1 p.m. and a pair on Saturday, starting at 12 p.m.
