UNIVERSITY, PARK, PA – The RIT women's hockey team (4-25-3, 1-17-0 CHA) fell to host Penn State University (8-13-11, 5-6-7 CHA), 2-0 from Pegula Ice Arena Saturday.
Abby Welch scored a first period power-play goal for the Nittany Lions, while Natalie Heising added her third goal of the weekend with 7:27 left in regulation. Bella Sutton assisted on both Nittany Lions goals. Goaltender Hannah Ehresmann stopped all 22 shots she faced for the shutout.
Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard) fired five shots on goal, while
Tori Haywood (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's Catholic) had three for the Tigers. Goaltender
Jenna de Jonge (Abbotsford, British Columbia/George Elliot) was excellent in net for the Tigers, stopping a season-high total of 38 shots. She also made 35 saves in last night's 4-1 loss.
Penn State out-shot RIT, 40-22. The Nittany Lions were 1-for-5 on the power-play, while RIT was 0-for-3.
Penn State leads the all-time series between the two schools, 15-13-3. Penn State won all four meetings between the two schools this season. RIT last defeated the Nittany Lions in the 2017 CHA First Round game.
RIT will wrap up the regular season next weekend, Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24 with a pair of home games against Mercyhurst University. Friday's game starts at 2 p.m., while Saturday's contest begins at 1 p.m. RIT will honor seniors
