ROCHESTER, NY –The RIT (10-4-2, 5-2-2 Liberty League) women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day by defeating Union College (6-8-2, 5-2-2 Liberty League) 1-0 Saturday afternoon in the Liberty League regular season finale from rainy Tiger Stadium. Senior Marla Roberts (Penfield, NY/Home Schooled) scored the game-winner for RIT in the 89th minute.

With the win, the Tigers secure the third seed in next week's Liberty League Tournament and will host a No. 6 Vassar College in the first round game on Tuesday, Oct. 30.  at 2:30 p.m.

"I am really pleased that the team rallied together today for the seniors," said RIT head coach Liz Masterson. "We got it done on a cold and wet day, and this group is finding our rhythm and coming together."

Roberts intercepted an attempted clearance by the Dutchwomen defense, drove in and scored with a low shot, beating goalkeeper Kelsey Hartsoe with 1:15 left in regulation to give the Tigers the win. The goal was Roberts' team-best seventh of the season.

Shots were 26-4 in favor of RIT, with the Tigers firing 14 shots on target, to two for the Dutchwomen. The Tigers held a 10-2 edge in corner kicks. Alyssa Salls (Plattsburgh, NY/Plattsburgh) got the win in net for RIT, making two saves. Hartsoe took the loss for Union, despite making 13 saves.

RIT had several chances in the first half, the first coming when Rachel Strader (Seneca, SC/Seneca) fired a shot from distance in the ninth minute that Hartsoe had to tip over the crossbar to keep the game scoreless. Jessica Jones (Holden, MA/Wachusett) had a chance off a corner kick, but Hartsoe came up with another big save.

Freshman Lauren Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) had a chance in the 24th minute on her shot from five yards out that was denied by Hartsoe. She kept the Dutchwomen in the game, making six first-half saves.

Emily Thiel (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) had two chances in the second half, but again, Hartsoe was sharp and made the saves. The game looked to be headed for overtime until the 89th minute when Roberts struck for her team-best seventh goal of the season.
