ROCHESTER, NY – Senior Lauren Carroll (Carlisle, Ontario/Oakville Hornets), along with juniors Kendall Cornine (Kinnelon, NJ/Morristown Beard), Mallory Rushton (Amherst, Nova Scotia/New Hampton Prep), and Christa Vuglar (Crystal Lake, IL/Chicago Mission) of the RIT women's hockey team, were named captains for the 2017-18 season on Tuesday, May 16. Carroll and Cornine will serve as captains, while Rushton and Vuglar are assistant captains. All four student-athletes are first-time captains.

"We are excited to have a good mix of four different personalities and strengths, who together will form a very cohesive unit," said Bruce B. Bates Women's Hockey Coach Scott McDonald. "They are doing a great job of setting the tone for next year with their positive attitude and work ethic with their hard work this offseason."

Carroll, a defenseman, played in 32 games for the Tigers in 2016-17, recording one assist and blocking 33 shots. A two-time College Hockey America All-Academic Team selection, Carroll has played in 105 games over her first three seasons at the university with a goal and two assists, while blocking 104 shots.

Cornine enjoyed a breakout season in 2016-17, leading the Tigers with 12 goals and 20 points, 129 shots on goal, four power-play goals, and two game-winning tallies. She finished seventh among all College Hockey America players with 12 goals and was fifth with 129 shots on goal. Cornine won a team-best 332 face-offs, including 50.9 percent of her face-offs taken. She was named the RIT Female Athlete of the Week, Nov. 28. In two seasons at RIT, Cornine, a forward, has 16 goals and 13 assists for 29 points in 70 career games played.

Rushton, who has played both forward and defense, played in 32 games last season, tallying four points on a goal and three assists. She led the Tigers with 46 penalty minutes and blocked 38 shots. Rushton has played in 64 career games over two seasons with three goals and five assists for eight points.

Vuglar returned to the lineup in 2016-17 after missing all of the 2015-16 season due to injury, playing in 28 games. She dished out three assists, all in the final seven games and was third on the team with 49 blocked shots. In 2014-15, Vuglar was named to the CHA All-Rookie Team after recording a goal and seven assists in 39 games. The defenseman has a goal and 10 assists to go along with 72 penalty minutes in 68 career contests.

"Lauren (Carroll) has emerged as a tremendous influence on our younger players, while Kendall (Cornine) leads by example on the ice and off the ice with her tremendous work ethic. Both captains will be great leaders," said McDonald. "Christa (Vuglar) as a player is the heart and soul of our team, playing hard and fearless every shift. Mallory (Rushton) has a contagious positive energy, getting teammates going on the ice, in the locker room, and in the gym."

The Tigers advanced to the College Hockey America Semifinals in 2016-17. RIT won the 2014 and 2015 CHA Championships.
