GENEVA, NY -- The RIT (8-8, 3-6 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team closed out the 2017 season with a 13-4 loss No. 8 William Smith College (16-1, 9-0 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon.
Shots were 33-14 in favor of the Herons. The Tigers grabbed 11 ground balls and won 6-of-19 draw controls. The Tigers converted one free position attempt, and cleared the ball 11 times.Â
Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) and
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) led RIT with a goal and an assist each.
Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) and
Nicole Bingo (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) each scored a goal.
Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) took the loss in net, making 12 saves.
Melissa Moore led William Smith with four goals. Ali Burns, while Allie Flaherty and Bizzer Gahagan each scored two goals. Sarah Honan got the win in net, making seven saves.
William Smith scored the first three goals of the game, taking a 3-0 lead on Gahagan's goal at the 21:19 mark. DaCosta scored off an assist from Livecchi at 13:32 to cut the score to 3-1. After a pair of Herons goals increased the lead to 5-1, Livecchi scored off an assist from DaCosta with 3:57 left in the half to cut the lead to 5-2.
Melissa Moore scored the first two goals of the second half for William Smith to increase the Herons lead to 7-2. Ward converted a free position attempt at 16:07 to cut the lead to 7-3. Goals from Flaherty, Burns and Alexandra Bird gave William Smith a 10-3 lead. Bingo added a goal with 5:04 to play, and consecutive goals from Moore, Burns and Kelsi Carr made it a 13-4 final.
William Smith will be the top seed in next week's Liberty League Tournament.
RIT finished with eight victories for the second straight season.
