ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY — The No. 3 RIT (14-2, 6-1 Liberty League) closed out the regular season in dominating fashion with a 28-2 win at Bard College (4-9, 0-7 Liberty League) on Saturday afternoon for its ninth straight victory. The 28 goals equals a season-high for the Tigers, who clinch a share of their sixth straight Liberty League regular season title and will be the top-seed in next week's Liberty League Tournament.
Shots were 52-9 in favor of RIT. The Tigers won the ground ball battle 47-16, and took 27-of-34 face-offs. RIT went a perfect 13-of-13 on clearing attempts and was 4-of-7 on man-up attempts.
Offensively, 16 different Tigers scored a goal, and 18 players tallied at least a point. Sophomore
Shawn Nally (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) led the Tigers with a career-high six points on three goals and three assists.
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, ON/Mother Teresa) and
Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) each had two goals and three assists, while
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) tallied four goals in the first quarter.
Matt Pogue (Mississauga, ON/St. Paul Secondary) scored his first collegiate goal and added two assists.
Patrick Shoemay (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross),
Dawson Tait (Ottawa, ON/Mother Teresa) and
Alex Przybilla (Rogers, MN/Rogers) also scored their first collegiate goals.
Nick Binnert (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) and
Kyle Killen (Peterborough, ON/Crestwood Secondary ) added a pair of goals each.
Jimmy Spillane (River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) won 21-of-27 face-offs and grabbed seven ground balls. Pogue caused two of RIT's eight caused turnovers and had six ground balls.
Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) got the win in net, playing the first quarter.
Jon Berg (Chester, NJ/Mendham) played the second quarter and made four saves.
Walker Hare (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) saw action in the third quarter and made a save, while
Patrick Jackson (Edina, MN/Edina) played the fourth quarter, making a save.
The Tigers led 11-0 after the first quarter on the strength of Lee's four goals. Killen scored twice in the quarter, while Levick, Shoemay, Pogue and Binnert also scored for RIT. RIT tacked on five goals in the second quarter to lead 16-1 at the half. Levick, Binnert, Henderson, Nally and
Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) all scored in the quarter. Emmett O'Connell got the Raptors on the board with his goal at the 12:45 mark of the second quarter.
RIT scored 10 times in the third quarter. Nally and
John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each scored twice in the quarter, while
Jon Sickler (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey), Tait,
Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), and Przybilla also scored. John Palermo scored Bard's second goal on the man-up with 7:20 to play in the quarter. Henderson and Hill scored in the fourth quarter to make it a 28-2 final.
The Tigers have now scored at least 20 goals in three straight games. They have tallied 181 goals during the winning streak.
RIT will face fourth-seeded Clarkson University in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinal on Friday, May 5 at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. The winner will play for the Liberty League title on Sunday, May 7 and will face the winner between St. Lawrence and Vassar.
