No. 2 RIT men's lacrosse hangs on to defeat No. 10 Stevenson in 2017 home opener

ROCHESTER, NY – The No. 2 RIT (2-0) men's lacrosse team defeated No. 10 Stevenson University (0-1), 16-13 in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field Saturday afternoon. It is the fourth straight win for RIT over Stevenson.

Shots were even at 51-37 in favor of Stevenson. The Tigers won the ground ball battle 44-27, and cleared the ball 12-of-17 times. RIT turned the ball over 23 times, while Stevenson had 21 turnovers. RIT went 2-of-6 on then man-up, and stopped the Mustangs on 4-of-5 chances with the extra man.

Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) led RIT with a career-high nine points on five goals and four assists. Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) had three goals and an assist, while JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) tallied three goals from his long-stick midfield position. Chad Levick (Newmarket, Ontario/Huron Heights Secondary) had two goals and two assists, while Kyle Killen (Peterborough, ON/Crestwood Secondary High School) had a goal and two assists.

Steven Ricci (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) won 16-of-31 face-offs and had eight ground balls for the Tigers. Patrick Hannigan (Hanover, MA/Hanover) and Lee each had six ground balls, while Hannigan and Hall each caused three turnovers. Nick Nesbitt (Burlington, Ontario/Salisbuury School) got the win in net for RIT, making 13 saves.

Kyle D'Onofrio led Stevenson with six points on five goals and an assist. JT Thelen, Morgan Pritchett and Kyle Karsian each had a pair of goals. Ross Dinan took the loss in net, making seven saves.

RIT never trailed, leading 5-3 after the first quarter, and 9-5 at the half. The Tigers built a 12-7 after the third quarter, and would lead by as much as 15-8 midway through the fourth quarter before hanging on for the 16-13 final. Stevenson scored six goals in the fourth quarter to make a game of it, but RIT was able to hold the ball and kill the clock for the win.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 4 when the Tigers host Scranton University at 1 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
