GENEVA, NY -- The No. 4 seed RIT (8-6-3) men's soccer team had its season ended Saturday with a 2-0 loss at top-seeded Hobart College (9-4-4) in the Liberty League Tournament Semifinals from Cozzens Field. RIT had its eight-game unbeaten streak snapped in the loss.
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) was an All-Tournament Team selection.
Shots were 14-4 in favor of RIT, who took eight corner kicks to three for the Statesmen.
Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) took the loss in net for RIT, while Alec Kaminer got the win for Hobart, making three saves.
In a scoreless first half, RIT had the better of the scoring chances.
Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton) had a chance in the fourth minute with a shot on net that was saved by Kaminer.
Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had a shot in the 10th minute saved, and another chance with 17 minutes to play in the half with a hard shot from distance that Kaminer just got to.
RIT's best chances came late in the half.
Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) had a shot on target saved off the line by a Hobart defender just as the ball appeared to be headed for the net.
Mark-Vincent Sansone (Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) had a header ring off the cross-bar with five minutes to play in the half that kept it scoreless into the intermission.
Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) had a chance three minutes into the second half when Kouroupas fed him with a ball on a run. However, Simone was whistled off side on the play as Hobart's defense just checked up.
The Statesmen took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Derrick Acheampong in the 50th minute. Hunter Critchlow fed Acheampong with a ball and he tucked a shot home past a diving Cinibulk.
Hobart made it 2-0 on a goal from Nick Wigglesworth in the 67th minute. Ben Barnes fed Wigglesworht with a ball and he scored from just inside the box to give the Statesmen a two-goal lead.
Tyler Hatch (Concord, NH/Tilton School) had a chance with a little less than eight minutes remaining in regulation on a service frim Simone. Hatch made the run to the back post arriving just after the ball got clear and out of play.
Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg) had a chance with seven minutes to play when his header off a corner kick went just high of the crossbar.
It was Hobart's second win over RIT this season, as they also defeated the Tigers, 2-1 in overtime on Sept. 27. RIT advanced to the semifinals after knocking off Clarkson University, 2-1 at Tiger Stadium on Tuesday.
RIT ends the season with 37 goals. Garno led the team in scoring with 12 assists and 18 points, while Kouroupas was right behind with a team-best seven goals and 17 points. Nine different players scored at least two goals in 2017.
