SCHENECTADY, NY -- The RIT (11-3-3, 4-2-3 Liberty League) women's soccer team closed out the regular season Saturday with a 0-0 draw at Union College (8-5-3, 3-4-2 Liberty League). With the tie, the Tigers clinched the third seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament. The Tigers will host a quarterfinal game vs No. 6 seed Clarkson University on Tuesday, Oct. 31.
With the tie, RIT extended its unbeaten streak to seven games. The Tigers closed out the regular season 5-0-2 in its final seven games, outscoring its opponents 10-3 over that stretch.
Shots were 16-5 in favor of Union. The Dutchwomen fired four shots on net, to one for the Tigers. Each team took three corner kicks. Allison Sorkenn made a save for Union, while
Kelly Rogers (Ardmore, PA/Haverford) made four stops for her seventh individual shutout of the season. Overall, it is RIT's eighth as a team.
Elena Wolfe (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) led the Tigers with three attempted shots, while
Riley Yankowich (Deerfield Beach, FL/Germantown Academy) had one.
Courtney Hunt (Brockport, NY/Brockport) fired RIT's lone shot on goal in the 56th minute.
RIT qualifies for the Liberty League Tournament for the sixth time in seven years. The time for Tuesday's game is yet to be determined.
