Volleyball falls in three sets to Liberty League foe Ithaca

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT volleyball team (12-14, 1-4 Liberty League) fell to Ithaca College (16-6, 4-1 Liberty League) in three sets from Clark Gym on Wednesday evening. The Tigers need to win out in league play to have a chance at fourth place in the Liberty League standings.

The Bombers rolled from the start, winning the three sets by scores of 25-9, 25-18 and 25-16.

Ithaca had 13 service aces and 29 kills, while hitting .257. RIT had 22 kills, but recorded 22 attack errors.

Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY/Peru) led the Tigers offensively, hitting .211 with seven kills, while Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) chipped in with seven kills as well. Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) dished out 16 assists, while Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) led the way defensively with eight digs, while Kirstie Wehler (Saint Marys, PA/Elk County Catholic) chipped in with five.

Joelle Goldstein hit .444 with 11 kills, seven digs and three service aces to lead the Bombers, while Reagan Stone added six kills. Caitlyn Floyd dished out a match-high 27 assists, while Tara Stilwell added nine digs and three aces.

"Ithaca played well," said RIT head coach Jim Lodes. "I'm sure that we will work hard tomorrow and be ready to compete this weekend."

Ithaca leads the all-time series between the two schools, 41-40. It was the first meeting between the two schools since 2010, as both teams were former rivals the Empire 8 Conference before RIT moved to the Liberty League in 2011. This is Ithaca's first season in the Liberty League.

The Tigers return to action on Friday evening at 7 p.m. versus Liberty League foe Union College at Clark Gym. RIT will honor Bennett, the team's lone senior before the match.
