ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT volleyball team (4-1) picked up its fourth straight victory, knocking off Keuka College (3-2) in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-15 at Clark Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
RIT was in control from the outset, rarely trailing all evening. The Tigers hit .253 as a team with 36 kills to Keuka's 24. RIT also had 54 digs to Keuka's 43 and recorded 11 blocks.
"We were able to work on a lot of things from last weekend and improved as tonight's match moved on," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes, who picked up his 296th win at the university this evening. "I like how we are progressing as a team right now."
Senior outside hitter
Sarah Szybist (Colorado Springs, CO/Ramstein) led the Tigers with 16 kills, 16 digs, and four blocks. Junior
Anna Valentine (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon) hit .318 with eight kills, six digs, and two aces, while sophomore
Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) added seven kills and four blocks.
Sophomore
Erin Parkinson (Carrollton, TX/W.T. White) led the Tigers with 19 assists in the first two sets, while junior
Montana Vescovi (Le Roy, NY/Le Roy) played the third set and added 10 helpers. Freshman
Sarah DelVecchio (Galway, NY/Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons) and sophomore
Liz Wunder (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) recorded four blocks apiece, while sophomore
Rebecca Bennett (Springfield, PA/Springfield) and freshman
Maria Simonetti (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) combined for 22 digs. Simonetti also added a team-high three service aces, while senior
Arielle Pariente (Twinsburg, OH/Twinsburg) had two aces.
Tally McDonald led the Wolves with nine kills, while Alyssa Rex added 14 assists and Kate Burke compiled 13 digs.
With the win, RIT improves to 21-1 all-time against Keuka.
RIT returns to action this weekend at the Marcia French Tournament hosted by Case Western Reserve University and Baldwin Wallace University. On Friday, RIT takes on Case Western Reserve at 5:30 p.m. and Denison University at 7:30 p.m.
