No. 3 RIT men's lacrosse shuts out Bard on Senior Day at Tiger Stadium

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (15-1, 7-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team shut out Bard College (4-11, 0-7 Liberty League) 23-0 on Senior Day at Tiger Stadium Saturday afternoon. The shut out is the first for the Tigers since a 25-0 win over Goucher College in 1992. The Tigers win their fourth straight Liberty League regular season title and will host the Liberty League Tournament. RIT will face No. 4 seed Union in the Liberty League Semifinal on Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m.

Shots were 45-8 in favor of the Tigers, who won the ground ball battle 49-18. RIT went 22-of-27 on face-offs and were 14-of-17 on clearing attemtps.

Fourteen different Tigers scored a goal on Saturday, led by Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) who tallied five first quarter goals. He moves into fourth all time in scoring with 243 career points and is third in goals with 160. Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and Cam Isaac (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each scored three goals, while Zack Thompson (Orangeville, Ontario/Culver Academy) had two goals and two assists. Matt Pogue (Mississauga, ON/St. Paul Secondary) and Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) each scored their first collegiate goals.

Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) improved to 8-1 on the season, making one save in net for RIT. Jon Berg (Chester, NJ/Mendham) played the third quarter and did not have to make a save. Michael Sztorc (Pawlet, VT/Burr & Burton Academy) preserved the shut out for RIT, playing the fourth quarter and making three saves.

Troy Ludtka took the loss in net for the Raptors, making 11 saves.

RIT led 9-0 after the first quarter and led 16-0 at the half. The Tigers tacked on four goals in the third quarter and scored three more in the fourth for the 23-0 win.

Lee scored all five of his goals in the first quarter. It is the third straight season he has scored 50 or more goals. Sterzin, Isaac, Sulesky and Vakiener also scored in the quarter. Thompson scored twice in the second quarter, while Vakiener, Sterzin, Beau Riley (Homer, NY/Homer), Isaac and Alex Bodin (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best) also scored in the second quarter.

Aidan Milburn (Vancouver, British Columbia/Sentinel Secondary), Isaac, Dave Shuster (Columbus, OH/St. Charles Prep), and John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) tallied goals in the fourth quarter. Luke Henderson (Hespeler, ON/St. Benedict's Catholic), Ryan Tandy (Montrose, NY/Hendrick-Hudson) and Pogue tallied goals in the fourht quarter.

Steven Ricci (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) won 9-of-10 face-offs and had five ground balls. Brandon Buscaglia (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) was 7-of-9 on draws with three ground balls, while Sam Weinger (Blooming Grove, NY/WashingtonVille) won 5-of-6 draws. Allen Thibodeau (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Nally, and Austin Wolf (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) each caused two turnovers.

RIT has won the regular season title in each of its first five seasons in the Liberty League.

No. 3 Rensselaer will head to No. 2 St. Lawrence in the other semifinal Friday at 4 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet for the league championship on Sunday, May 8 at noon at the site of the highest remaining seed.
