Men's soccer drops 2016 season finale in overtime to Hobart on Senior Day

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (5-9-3, 1-6-1 Liberty League) men's soccer team fell to Hobart College (9-5-3, 6-1-1 Liberty League) 1-0 in overtime, in the 2016 regular season finale on Saturday at Tiger Stadium. Prior to the game, RIT honored seniors Scott Fishel (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Scott Geyer (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone), as they made their final regular season appearance at Tiger Stadium.

Adrian Colmenares tallied the game winner in the 97th minute off an assist from Nate Clary for the Statesmen. Shots were 10-8 in favor of the Statesmen, while RIT took six corner kicks to four for Hobart, who clinched at least a share of the 2016 Liberty League regular season title. Alec Kamoner got the win in net for Hobart, making two saves. Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) took the loss in net for RIT.

The Tigers had their share of scoring chances. In the first half, Ben Frenett (Spencerport, NY/Allendale Columbia) had a chance off a free kick. Gene Sicoli (Commack, NY/Commack) sent a service into the box with a little over 12 minutes to play in the half. Frenett ran onto the service and headed a ball on target, but Kaminer was there to make the stop and keep the game scoreless. Dante DeSisti (Reston, VA/South Lakes) had a chance with time winding down in the first half on a nice build-up by the Tigers. DeSisti finally got his feet sorted, but his shot was blocked by a host of Hobart defenders.

RIT had a great chance to take the lead with a little over two minutes to play when Sicoli found Ahmed Alrefaei (Jeddah, Saudi Arabia/Al-Alhli) with a ball down the channel. Alrefaei fired a one-timer, but Kaminer came off his line and blocked the shot aside. Alrefaei had a chance with less than a minute to play in regulation, but his shot went just wide of the Hobart net, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime, Colmenares and Cary worked the give and go to perfection. Colmenares fed Cary, who returned the favor, feeding Colemnares who fired into the net to give the Statesmen their fifth straight overtime win.

Fishel became the program's all-time leader in minutes played. He surpassed the mark in the 11th minute of Saturday's game. He has played every minute in all but two games in his illustrious RIT career.
