ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's hockey team goes on the road this weekend for a pair of games at Atlantic Hockey rival Bentley University. Both games from the John A. Ryan Skating Arena get underway at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Tigers (8-10-2, 8-5-1 Atlantic Hockey) earned a weekend sweep against Atlantic Hockey foe Canisius last time out, falling by a score of 6-3 on Friday evening, while rebounding to win 4-3 on Saturday. On Friday, Gabe Valenzuela (Brampton, Ontario/North York Rangers) scored a goal and added an assist, while Brady Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) and Alex Perron-Fontaine (St. Mathieu de Beloeil, Quebec/Chilliwack Chiefs) also scored. On Saturday, senior Brad Shumway (Lafayette, CO/Chicago Steel) broke a 3-3 tie with his second collegiate goal with 8:56 left in regulation, while Abbott Girduckis (Belleville, Ontario/Wellington Dukes), Myles Powell (Courtenay, British Columbia/Cowichan Valley Capitals), and Valenzuela also scored for the Tigers. Christian Short (Vaughan, Ontario/Surrey Eagles) made 15 saves to pick up his fourth win of the season.

On Tuesday, Shumway was named the Atlantic Hockey Defensive Player of the Week. Powell, Valenzuela and Josh Mitchell (Osoyoos, British Columbia/Alberni Valley Bulldogs) lead the team in scoring with 14 points apiece. Powell leads the team with nine goals, while Mitchell has 11 assists. Mitchell is just a point shy of becoming the ninth player since RIT moved to Division I in 2005 to record 100 for his career. He has 28 career goals and 71 assists.

Bentley (8-11-2, 6-7-2 Atlantic Hockey) enters the weekend looking to get back on track after getting swept at Robert Morris by scores of 5-1 and 5-0. Max French leads the Falcons in scoring with 11 goals and 24 points, while Kyle Schmidt is right behind with eight goals and 19 points. In goal, Gabe Antoni and Jayson Argue have split time. Antoni is 5-7-1 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .919 save percentage, while Argue is 3-4-1 with a 2.75 goals against average and a .930 save percentage. Its opponents are outscoring Bentley 59-49 this season.

It will be the third and fourth meetings between the two schools this season, as Bentley swept a pair of games at the Gene Polisseni Center on Nov. 13-14 with consecutive 3-2 overtime wins. RIT fired 96 total shots on goal that weekend, including a season-high 58 on Nov. 13. Antoni replaced an injured Argue in the first game and stopped 49 of 51 shots to pick up the two victories for Bentley. RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 17-11-2, including a 15-10-2 record since the Division I era started in 2005.

Both games will be broadcast over the airwaves on WITR 89.7 FM and witr.rit.edu. Online video is also available, along with live stats.
