CORTLAND, NY – The RIT (1-3-0) men's soccer traveled to No. 18 SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon, losing to the Red Dragons (4-1) by a score of 4-0. With the loss, the Tigers fall to 7-5-1 all time versus Cortland and have not beaten the Red Dragons since the 2012 season.
Shots were 24-12 in favor of Cortland. The Tigers took seven corner kicks, to 10 for the Red Dragons.
Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) led RIT with four shots, while
Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) fired three shots for the Tigers.
Chris Dill (East Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) got the start in net for RIT, taking the loss and making five saves. Joe Brandofino picked the win for the Red Dragons, making three saves.
Robby Reiser gave Cortland a 1-0 lead on his goal in the 26th minute off an assist from Andrew Prendergast. Drew DeJohn made it 2-0 Cortland with his goal in the 36th minute, while Nick Tata made it 3-0 on his goal in the 40th minute. Marlon Montini added a goal late in the second half to make it a 4-0 final.
RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 15 when they host Elmira College at 4 p.m. on the grass at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers are 10-3-2 all time versus the Soaring Eagles, including a 1-0 win in Elmira in 2014.
