ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (7-9, 4-5 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team had its 2015 season ended on Saturday with a 10-9 loss at Liberty League rival University of Rochester (9-7, 4-5 Liberty League). With the loss, the Tigers were eliminated from playoff contention.
Shots were 27-19 in favor of Rochester. RIT grabbed 17 ground balls, while the Yellowjackets grabbed 23. The Tigers won eight draw controls, and were 14-of-17 on clearing attempts and were 1-for-5 on free position tries.
Junior
Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led RIT with four goals.
Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tallied two goals and dished out two assists.
Corrina Mandell (Corning, NY/Corning East) added a goal and an assist, and
Sydney DaCosta (New Bedford, MA/Bishop Stang) tallied a goal.
Caitlin Conway (Landisville, PA/Hempfield)got the loss in net, making 12 saves.
Lauren Basil led Rochester with three goals. Elisabeth Watson and Maddie Elia each scored a pair of goals, while Madeline Levy had a goal and an assist. Maire Prosak got the win in net for the Yellowjackets making four saves.
Rochester took an early 3-0 lead on a pair of goals from Basil and one from Elia. Sarkis got the Tigers on the scoreboard with the first of her four goals on the afternoon at 23:12 of the first half. After a Basill goal gave the Yellowjackets a 4-1 lead, the Tigers rattled off three straight goals, tying the score at 4-4 on a Livecchi goal with 17:17 to play in the opening half. Mandell and Sarkis also scored in the run for RIT.
Rochester tallied three straight goals late in the half, taking an 8-5 lead on a Jamie Wallisch free position goal with 7:24 to play. RIT responded with a pair of goals, trailing 8-7 at halftime. Sarkis converted a free position attempt with 3:05 to play, and
Amanda Olsen (Glen Mills, PA/Archmere Academy) scored as the halftime horn sonded, making it an 8-7 deficit for RIT.
Danielle Diacova opened the second half scoring with her fourth goal of the season off an assist from Michelle Harrington. DaCosta made it 9-8 Rochester on her fourth goal of the season with 14:15 to play in regulation. Sarkis took a feed from Mandell and scored with 12:38 to play, tying the score at 9-9.
That set up Levy's game-winner with 46 seconds to play. RIT had a chance to get the ensuing draw, but could not come up with the loose ball and Rochester was able to run out the clock.
With the loss, RIT falls to 4-3 all time versus the Yellowjackets.
