Women's lacrosse loses hard-fought contest to No. 3 Colby College in Florida

ORLANDO, FL -- The RIT (2-4) women's lacrosse team put up a valiant effort, but came up just shy, falling to No. 3 Colby College (7-1), 10-7 on Tuesday afternoon in Orlando, Florida.

Shots were 16-10 in favor of the Mules. RIT grabbed 13 ground balls to 16 for Colby, while the Tigers were 9-of-10 on clearing attempts, and 2-of-3 on free position attempts. Senior Caitlin Conway (Landisville, PA/Hempfield) got the start in net, taking the loss, making one save. Elizabeth Hughes (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) played the final 12:53, making two saves.

Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led RIT with four points on three goals and an assist. She moves into sixth place all time in scoring with 142 career points. Freshman Emily Livecchi (Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) added three points on two goals and an assist, while Corrina Mandell (Corning, NY/Corning East) and Sammy Ward (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) each scored a goal.

Sara Miller led Colby with four goals on three goals and an assist. Abby Hopper and Sasha Fritts each tallied a pair of goals, while Gemma Bready scored a goal. Claire Dickson picked up the win in net for the Mules making three saves.

Hopper opened the scoring for Colby, tallying off an assist from Dana Swaffield 1:03 into the game. RIT responded with three straight goals, taking a 3-1 lead on Livecchi's unassisted goal at 16:46 of the first half. Sarkis tallied the first two goals for the Tigers, the first at 26:14, while the second came off a feed from Livecchi at 19:40.

The Mules ended the first half tallying three straight goals, taking a 4-3 lead into halftime. Bready sandwiched a goal in between a pair of Fritts goals to end the half.

RIT opened the second half tallying the first two goals, taking a 5-4 lead on a Sarkis' free position goal at the 27:49 mark of the half. Ward opened the second-half scoring on her unassisted goal, tying the score at 4-4.

The Mules scored five straight to break the open, taking a 9-5 lead on Hooper's goal with 12:53 to play in the second half. Miller scored two of Colby's five goals in that stretch, while dishing out an assist.
 
The Tigers would not go away however, as Mandell took a pass from Sarkis and scored with 10:35 to play in regulation, pulling the Tigers to within 9-6. Livecchi converted a free position attempt with 4:33 to play, making it 9-7 Mules.

Miller put the game away with her goal with 2:27 to play, making it a 10-7 final. RIT returns to action on Friday, March 27 when the Tigers host Liberty League foe, Clarkson University at 4 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
