ST. CHARLES, MO - Host Lindenwood University (8-15-1, 5-8-1 CHA) scored 23 seconds into the game and that goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 win over the RIT women's hockey team (10-15-3, 4-9-1 CHA) at the Lindenwood Ice Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Lyndsay Kirkham scored the game's lone goal just 23 seconds into the game on Lindenwood's first shot on assists from Jordyn Constance and Shara Jasper. Lindenwood goaltender Nicole Hensley made the lead stand, needing to make just 16 shots in the win.
The Tigers, who fired 40 shots on goal in last night's win, had just 16 shots on goal in today's loss, four in the first period, six in the second, and six in the third period. RIT goaltender
Brooke Stoddart (Elmvale, Ontario/Elmvale), who earned the win in relief last night, made 20 saves in today's loss.
Lindenwood out-shot RIT, 21-16. RIT was 0-for-4 with the man-advantage, while Lindenwood was 0-for-5.
"Tonight was a tough start from us and it proved to be the difference," said RIT head coach
Scott McDonald. "We were fighting the puck all game and definitelty did not have the same jump in our step last week."
RIT is now 5-3-4 all-time against the Lady Lions and 2-2-2 from the Lindenwood Ice Arena. This was the first overtime win against Lindenwood, with a 1-0-4-overtime mark against the Lady Lions. Lindenwood won the regular season series between the two schools, 2-1-1.On Oct. 31,
