GREENVILLE, PA - The RIT wrestling team (5-8) went 1-2 on Friday at the Mel Berry Duals hosted by Thiel College. The Tigers lost their first match to Baldwin Wallace, 29-15, and fell to Thiel 24-13. The Tigers rebounded with a 35-6 win over Mercyhurst North East in the final match of the evening.

Versus Baldwin Wallace, Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne), Tory Cain (Ontario, NY/Wayne) and Sam Weinger (Blooming Grovve, NY/Washingtonville) picked up win for the Tigers. Mayville defeated Joe Schmidt at 149 lbs. with a pinfall at 2:47, while Cain defeated Garret Chase at 174 lbs. with a pinfall at 6:13. Cain moved to 17-3 on the season and it was his sixth pinfall of the year. Weinger picked up his 15th win of the season, defeating Joe Belfort at 285 lbs., 9-6.

Kevin Palmieri (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) picked up a win over Trevor Wood from Thiel at 133 lbs. with a 6-2 decision. Jake Sepor (Stafford, NY/Pavilion) kept it going for the Tigers at 141 lbs., defeating Lance Waters, 3-1. Mayville picked up his second win of the day at 149 lbs., defeating Nick Hart with an 18-2 technical fall at 5:14. Sam Weinger (Blooming Grovve, NY/Washingtonville) picked up another win for the Tigers at 285 lbs., defeating Jake Trillow, 7-2.

Versus Mercyhurst-North East, Sepor, Won Kim (Millbrae, CA/Mills), Nicholas Greenquist (Spring Lake, NJ/St. Rose) and Cain each picked up wins via decision. Palmieri, Mayville, Jake Swearingen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and Weinger each garnered forfeit wins for RIT. Mayville improved to 18-4 on the season, while Weinger jumped to 17-15 on the season.

RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Jan, 28 when the Tigers host SUNY Brockport at 7 p.m. on the floor of Clark Gymnasium. RIT will honor seniors Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield), Cain, and Mayville before the match.
