Men's soccer loses 1-0 at SUNY Oneonta in first round of Mayor's Cup

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (0-2-1) men's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by SUNY Oneonta (2-0-0) at the first round of the 2014 Mayor's Cup on the campus of SUNY Oneonta on Friday afternoon.

Shots were 9-6 in favor of the Red Dragons, and 7-4 on corner kicks. Mark Reeves (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) took the loss in goal for RIT, making three saves. Vincent Pellegrini picked up the in net for SUNY Oneonta, making one save.

The first half saw Oneonta control the play in the early going, generating two good chances, but the Tigers defense held strong. RIT settled in and got the ball into the attacking half. Connor Wesch (Massapequa, NY/Kellenberg) had a good chance for the Tigers in the 28th minute when he fired a shot from distance that whistled passed the Oneonta post. Oneonta had a great chance in the 32nd minute when Mitchell Cain fired a shot from just inside the RIT penalty area. Reeves was equal to the task, making the diving save.
 
Shots were 5-2 in favor of the Red Dragons after 45 minutes. Reeves made two saves for the Tigers. Pellegrini did not make a save in the first half for SUNY Oneonta.

RIT had a good chance in the opening moments of the second half when Geno Rocco (Apalachin, NY/Vestal) fired a service into the penalty area. Danny Bloshkin (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) gathered the cross and fired a shot that went just wide of the Oneonta post. The rebound came to Rocco who slung a shot back on net the Pellegrini saved.

SUNY Oneonta took a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute on Dylan Williams' first goal of the season. Hans Purtell sent a cross into the RIT penalty area that Williams gathered and buried into the lower left corner.
 
Dakota Kegler (Pavilion, NY/Pavilion) fired a shot from distance for the Tigers inside the last 10 minutes that just missed the Oneonta post.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, September 6 in the consolation match of the Mayor's Cup in Oneonta, N.Y.
