CANTON, NY - The RIT volleyball team (10-5) extended its winning streak to three matches with a decisive 25-17, 25-19, 25-14 win over Hartwick (5-11) at the Canton Classic hosted by St. Lawrence University on Friday evening.
The Tigers hit .278 overall in the match, with 39 kills. Sophomore outside hitter
Sarah Szybist (Chicago, IL/Ramstein) led the way offensively by hitting .324 with 17 kills to go along with eight digs and two blocks.
Sara Martin (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) hit .500 with six kills, while Katla Wheeler hit .400 with six kills and three blocks. Setter
Laiz Novaes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Centro Educational) dished out 31 assists to go along with a pair of service aces.
Defensively, the senior duo of
Bethany Davis (Blasdell, NY/Frontier) and
Hanna Stokes (Frederick, MD/Urbana) combined for 24 digs. Davis had a team-high 14, while Stokes added 10.
Amy Van Hienen (Castor, Alberta/Gus Wetter) added 11 digs in just two sets, while adding three kills.
Taylor Harkness (Batavia, NY/Batavia) had three kills, while
Kaitlin Slippy (Moultonborough, NH/Moultonborough Academy) recorded a pair of service aces.
I was pleased with our overall effort," said RIT head coach
Jim Lodes. "We got better as the match progressed. We have two tough opponents tomorrow and I think we will be ready to play."
Rosa Maun led the Hawks with five kills, while Quincy Kinzel dished out 12 assists and Alyssa Zeitler added 12 digs.
The Tigers wrap up play at the Canton Classic with a pair of matches on Saturday at SUNY Canton. The Tigers play the hosts at 11 a.m. and Houghton at 3 p.m.
