WHITNEY POINT, NY – RIT men's crew competed in the New York State Collegiate Rowing Championship this weekend on Saturday, May 3 and Sunday, May 4 on Whitney Point Lake. The Tigers participated in three event grand finals in high winds and challenging conditions, highlighted by a first place overall finish in the novice 8.
The varsity 8 finished the grand final in a time of 6:27.19, placing fourth overall to Hobart's time of 6:18.69. The crew of

Samuel Adams (Oneida, NY/Oneida) and
Jon Massari (Wilton, CT/Wilton) was just 1.17 seconds off third place finisher U.S. Military Academy (6:26.02). Ithaca placed second in 6:20.94. RIT finished third in their heat on Saturday, completing the race in 6:35.76 to reach the grand final.
The novice 8 advanced to Sunday's grand final by winning its Saturday heat. After catching a boat-stopping crab with 750 meters to go in the heat, the Tigers rallied to top the U.S. Military Academy by 0.30 seconds. In another very tight race the next day, the line-up of Matt Gallagher,

Najib Quinones (Copenhagen, NY/Copenhagen) fought through the wind and took the top spot overall with a time of 6:59.18, edging out second place finisher Ithaca by 0.09 seconds. The U.S. Military Academy placed third in 7:22.63.
RIT's JV8 took fifth in the grand final with a time of 7:05.75. Hobart finished first in 6:36.02. The line-up featuring

The Tigers return to the water next weekend on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10 to compete in the Dad Vail Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA.
