No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse rolls past SUNY Geneseo, 22-6



ROCHESTER, NY -- The No. 1 RIT (10-0) men's lacrosse team rolled past SUNY Geneseo (2-5) by a score of 22-6 in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field on Wednesday afternoon. Thirteen different Tigers scored, led by freshman Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) who tallied six goals on the afternoon.

Lee led RIT with seven points on six goals and an assist. Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) had two goals and two assists, while Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) dished out four assists. Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) and Pat McMullan (Easton, PA/Wyoming Seminary) each scored two goals and Alex Sulesky dished out a pair of assists. Sophomore Reid Swier (Red Deer, Alberta/Rimbey) scored his first collegiate goal.

The Tigers held a 51-34 shot advantage, and dominated the ground ball battle, 63-32. RIT won 20-of-29 face-offs and were 17-of-19 on clearing attempts. The Tigers man-up went 2-for-4 on the afternoon, while the man-down unit allowed two Geneseo man-up goals on three chances.

Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) won 10-of-13 face-offs, dished out an assist and had a team-high eight ground balls. Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) caused three turnovers, scored a goal and had two ground balls, while Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park) and Warren each caused two turnovers for RIT. Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) got the start in net. He played the first half, picking up his seventh win of the season, making four saves. Tony DeLeo played most of the second half, making six saves and Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) played the final 10:32, stopping three shots.

RIT jumped out to a 6-1 lead after the first quarter. Lee scored four of his six goals over the opening 15 minutes, while Wisman and Sterzin tallied the other two RIT goals. Joe Chiara scored Geneseo's lone first-quarter goal off an assist from Zach Yehl.

RIT ended the first quarter with a two-goal run and kept the momentum going in the second quarter, tallying the first six goals, taking a 12-1 lead on a goal by Wallace with 5:06 to play in the opening half.

Sam Thompson broke the RIT run with his 17th goal of the season with 1:43 to play in the half off a feed from Steve Aziz.

Goals from Warren and JD Hall (Centennial, CO/Arapahoe) to end the half gave the Tigers a 14-2 halftime lead.

Geneseo came out fired up in the third quarter, scoring the first two goals. Chiara scored his eighth of the season and second of the game at 12:40 of the third quarter, making it 14-3 RIT. Andre Keating made it 14-4 RIT with his sixth goal of the season at 11:55.

Goals from Warren, McMullan and Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) gave the Tigers a 17-4 lead. RIT would add on three more goals in the quarter to lead 20-6 after three.

Swier and Zack Thompson (Orangeville, Ontario/Culver Academy) scored fourth quarter goals for RIT, making it a 22-6 final. The Tigers are outscoring their opponents 170-87 this season. RIT leads the all-time series between the two schools, 25-11. It is the second time this season that RIT has put up at least 20 goals in game. The Tigers have scored at least 15 goals in nine of 10 contests this season and are averaging 17 goals per game.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 5 when RIT hits the road to face Rensselaer in Liberty League action from Troy, N.Y. Opening face-off is at 1 p.m.
