POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The No. 1 RIT (13-0, 3-0 Liberty League) men's lacrosse team returned to action Saturday afternoon, Defeating Vassar College (6-6, 1-3 Liberty League), 24-2 on a sun-drenched Gordon Field on the campus of Vassar. It is RIT's largest margin of victory and most goals scored in a contest this season.
Owen Nicola (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) led a balanced Tigers offensive attack, tallying a career-high three goals.
Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) also tallied three goals, while
Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont),
John Hill (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas),
Drew Tosaya (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) and
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) each scored two goals.
Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Allister Warren (Toronto, Ontario/Malvern Collegiate Institute) each had three assists, as 18 different Tigers scored on the afternoon. Tosaya and Hill each scored their first collegiate goals.
RIT out shot Vassar, 49-21, and won the ground ball battle 48-34. The Tigers won 19-of-29 face-offs and were 14-of-15 on clearing attempts. The Tigers scored on their only man-up chance and committed 16 turnovers.
Tyler Brooks-Lambert (Seneca Castle, NY/Midlakes) won 7-of-11 face-offs and grabbed five ground balls.
Tyler Shaw (Tully, NY/Tully) won 11-of-14 face-offs and had seven ground balls. Senior
Anthony DeLeo (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) got the start in net, picking up his fourth win of the season, making six saves.
Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) played the entire second half, making seven saves.
RIT led 9-1 after the first quarter and 15-2 at halftime. Lee scored all three of his goals in the first half; while Jackson and Nicola each scored two goals in the opening 30 minutes for RIT.
The second half saw RIT outscore Vassar, 9-0. Tosaya and Hill each scored two goals in the second half for RIT, while
Braden Wallace (Oakville, Ontario/Abbey Park),
Zack Thompson (Orangeville, Ontario/Culver Academy),
Reid Swier (Red Deer, Alberta/Rimbey) and
Jack Krzyston (Bedford, NH/Bishop Guertin) also scored.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 when the Tigers host No. 7 Union College at 4 p.m.
