No. 1 RIT men's lacrosse rolls to 21-4 win over Colby 21-4 at historic Homewood Field

BALTIMORE, MD -- The No. 1 RIT (8-0) men's lacrosse team led 8-2 at halftime and tallied nine third-quarter goals en route to a 21-4 rout over Colby College (4-3) on a chilly Wednesday evening from legendary Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University. The 21 goals scored by the Tigers is a season-high.

Sophomore Kyle Sterzin (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led RIT with four goals. Casey Jackson (Victoria, BC/Claremont) tallied three goals, while Taylor Wisman (Seattle, WA/Inglemoor), Eddie Kiesa (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Kyle Aquin (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Jean De Brebeuf) and Ryan Lee (Sharon, Ontario/The Hill Academy) each had two goals and an assist.

RIT held a 47-37 shot advantage and a slight 35-33 ground ball edge. The Tigers were 13-of-27 on face-offs and went 28-of-31 on clearing attempts. RIT went 1-for-2 with the man advantage, while holding Colby one goal in eight extra-man chances.

Pat Johnston (Norwell, MA/Norwell) got the start in net for RIT, making 16 saves. Jarryd Lee (Melbourne, Australia/St. Leonards) played the final 10:07, allowing zero goals and making six saves. Sophomore long-stick midfielder Matt Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario/Port Perry) scored a goal, grabbed three ground balls and had two caused turnovers. Baird Wilber (Guyanoga Valley, NY/Penn Yan Academy) and Jay Kryzston each caused two turnovers for RIT.

The Tigers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first quarter on goals from Alec Sulesky (Medina, OH/Medina), Wisman and Lee to open the game. John Grimaldi broke the RIT run, tallying Colby's first goal with 15 seconds to play in the first quarter.

Sterzin scored two of RIT's five second-quarter goals, while Jackson, Wisman and Kiesa also scored, as RIT outscored Colby 5-1 in the second quarter, leading 8-2 at halftime.

Alex Rutan opened the second half scoring on his ninth goal of the season, cutting the RIT lead to 8-3. After goals by Brooks-Lambert and Jackson made it 10-3 RIT, Colby's Austin Sayre scored for the Mules, making it 10-4 Tigers. That would be as close as Colby would get as RIT exploded for 11 unanswered goals to close out the contest, including seven in the third quarter to lead 17-4 after 45 minutes of play. Sterzin and Aquin each had two goals in that run for RIT.

RIT's defense tightened in the second half, holding Colby to two goals, keeping the Mules scoreless over the final 24:12 of the contest.

Kiesa, Pat McMullan (Easton, PA/Wyoming Seminary), Owen Nicola (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and Dan LoBosco (South Salem, NY/John Jay) each scored in the fourth quarter for RIT. It was LoBosco's first collegiate goal.

Tonight's meeting was the first between the two schools. RIT has now outscored its opponents, 133-71 this season, including 39-12 during the third quarter. The Tigers have scored at least 15 goals in seven of eight contests. It is RIT's first 20-goal outburst since hanging 22 on Cabrini in the 2013 NCAA Second Round on May 11.

RIT returns to action on Friday, March 28 when the Tigers face Williams College at 7 p.m. at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md.
