ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT (3-1) women's basketball team was in control from the start, defeating Keuka College (0-4) by a score of 62-38 Monday night at Clark Gym.
RIT had 12 different players score led by
Ashlynn Palmitesso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) and
Maria Edwards (Forrest Hill, MD/The John Carroll School) with 10 points apiece.
Taylor Burns (Rochester, NY/Greece Odyssey) added eight points while
Abby Judd (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) scored six.
Julia Bender (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Jessi Glaz finished with five points while
Merissa Maiorano (Rochester, NY/Pittsford Mendon) contributed four points and grabbed five rebounds.
RIT led 36-15 at halftime after Maiorano scored at the 2:56 mark to give the Tigers a lead they would hold the rest of the game. RIT shot 37.5 percent from the floor going 15-of-40 and 3-of-8 from behind the arc. Bender led the defensive effort with four steals. She added four first half points along with Judd off the bench.
In the second half, RIT maintained its lead with several players getting quality minutes. The Tigers played solid defense throughout the game, recording 26 steals.
RIT shot 33.8 percent from the floor for the game on 24-of-71 shooting. The Tigers were 6-of-16 from behind the arc and 8-of-16 from the line.
"I thought it was a great defensive effort," said RIT head coach
Amy Reed. "We continue to play with intensity on the defensive end and that just fuels our offense."
The Tigers will be back in action in the first round of the Wendy's College Classic starting on Tuesday, Dec. 2.
