Horde scores 28 as men's basketball beats D'Youville on final day of Harold J. Brodie Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT men's basketball team improved to 4-0 with an 85-73 win over D'Youville College (1-3) on Sunday at the 30th Annual Harold J. Brodie Tournament. Freshman AJ Horde (Oak Park, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) led the Tigers with a career-high 28 points. Kamron Davis (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) added 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The Tigers shot 40.5 percent from the floor on 30-of-74 shooting. RIT made 9-of-32 from behind the arc, and went 16-of-29 from the foul line. Horde led RIT with 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including six made 3-pointers. He sparked a late first-half run, nailing five straight 3-point buckets to give the Tigers a 16-point cushion at halftime. Sheldon Clay (Detroit, MI/University of Detroit Jesuit) added nine points, four rebounds and four assists.

RIT led by five points early in the first half, but the Spartans responded and took a 21-20 lead on a jumper by Marcus Clarke with 6:43 to play. With 3:47 to play, D'Youville's Nate Sweetman made a jumper cutting the RIT lead to 26-24. That's when Horde took over for the Tigers.

The freshman guard came down and drained a three off a feed from Miguel Lopez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/St. Francis), making it 29-24 RIT. After a missed D'Youville jumper, Horde came down and drained another three from the top of the arc. He made five straight three pointers in all, the last from way behind the line, helping the Tigers open up a 44-28 halftime lead. Horde finished the half with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, tallying 16 of RIT's final 18 points in the half.

RIT led by as many as 23 points in the second half. Casey Bobelis (Bradenton, FL/Braden River) got the offensive rebound off a Joe Stortini (Red Hook, NY/Loomis Chaffee) miss and laid the ball in, giving RIT a 71-48 lead with 9:10 to play. Bobelis finished with six points and seven rebounds.

D'Youville responded with an 18-5 run of its own, cutting RIT's lead to 76-66 on a Julian Reed dunk with 2:30 to play, making it 76-66 Tigers. Reed led D'Youville with 16 points and 14 rebounds. RIT weathered the D'Youville storm to hold on for the 12-point win.

RIT held a slight 57-54 rebounding edge. The Tigers scored 13 points off of 19 offensive rebounds and tallied 36 points in the paint. RIT capitalized, tallying 15 points off of 12 D'Youville turnovers.

RIT returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when the Tigers face Keuka College at 7 p.m. in Keuka Park, N.Y.
