Men's hockey travels to brand new HARBORCENTER for two games against league rival Canisius this weekend

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT men's hockey team heads west on I-90 to play a pair of Atlantic Hockey Conference contests against Canisius College at the brand new HARBORCENTER on Friday and Saturday. Both contests start at 7:35 p.m. It is the only two regular season meetings between the two schools this season.
 
RIT (2-6-1, 1-4-1 AHC) went 0-1-1 last weekend at home against Atlantic Hockey rival Holy Cross, tying 3-3 on Friday and falling by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. On Friday, Brady Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers), Andrew Miller (Chicago, IL/Chicago Steel), and Matt Garbowsky (St. George, Ontario/Powell River Kings) scored, while Jordan Ruby (Tavistock, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) made 34 saves. Garbowsky's goal came with 1:09 left in regulation, tying the game at 3-3. On Saturday, Garbowsky scored RIT's lone goal, while Ruby made 19 saves in a 2-1 loss to the Crusaders.
 
Garbowsky, who is three games shy of 100 for his RIT career, has at least a point in eight of nine games this season. He leads the team with five goals and is second with 10 points. Josh Mitchell (Osoyoos, British Columbia/Alberni Valley Bulldogs) has a team-best 11 points on two goals and seven assists in seven games. He is third nationally with nine assists in nine games. Ruby has started the last three games for the Tigers and is 1-2-1 with a 2.73 goals against average and .911 save percentage.
 
Canisius enters the weekend with a 4-4-2 overall record and is 3-2-1 in conference play. Last weekend, the Golden Griffins went 0-1-1 at Sacred Heart, falling 3-2 on Friday and skating to a 4-4 tie on Saturday. Its opponents are outscoring Canisius, 30-28 this season. Shane Conacher leads the Golden Griffins in scoring this season with 11 points on four goals and seven assists, while Ralph Cuddemi is right behind with four goals and five assists for nine points. In goal, Keegan Asmundson and Reilly Turner have split time. Asumundson is 2-3-1 with a 3.13 goals against average and .894 save percentage, while Turner is 2-1-1 with a 2.95 goals against average and .907 save percentage.
 
RIT and Canisius have enjoyed a long rivalry, both as members of the ECAC West Conference and as AHA schools. RIT is 57-19-1 all-time against the Golden Griffins and 18-9-0 since the start of the 2005-06 season. RIT won the season series between the two schools, 2-1-0 in 2013-14.
 
HARBORCENTER, which opened on Oct. 31, is a $172 million facility adjacent to First Niagara Center, home of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres, with two NHL-size rinks, including a 1,800-seat arena where Canisius serves as the primary tenant. The facility also houses the team's state-of-the-art locker room, separate athletic training areas, a player's lounge and the IMPACT Sports Performance Center in addition to Tim Hortons and (716) Food and Sport.
 
RIT's military themed game-worn jerseys worn last weekend against Holy Cross are currently being auctioned off at www.rit.edu/oneteamonefight until Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. All funds generated from the auctions will be distributed to a number of local agencies serving veterans of the Greater Rochester area through the all-volunteer One Team One Fight effort.
