ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women's hockey team head back on the road for the second straight weekend to play a pair of games against Brown University of the ECAC this weekend. The Tigers and Bears meet on Friday at 7 p.m. and close out the weekend series at 4 p.m. Saturday.
The Tigers (3-2-1) will look to extend their winning streak after splitting a pair of non-conference road games against Vermont last weekend, falling 2-1 on Saturday, while winning 2-0 on Sunday. On Saturday,
Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) scored RIT's lone goal, as RIT squandered a third period lead in a loss for the first time in nearly a year, ironically enough against next weekend's opponent, Brown. On Saturday,
Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy) and
Kolbee McCrea (Wawa, Ontario/Burlington Barracudas) scored, while
Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) made 27 saves to record her second shutout of the season and 16th of her collegiate career.
Binnington is now third nationally this season with a .968 save percentage and fourth with a 0.81 goals against average. The win on Sunday was her 40th career victory, tying her with former teammate Laura Chamberlain for third all-time at RIT. Binnington has a 10-2 mark and an incredible 0.76 goals against average and .973 save percentage, having allowed just 10 goals and stopping 356 shots over her last 12 starts dating back to last season. She is 88 saves and 171 minutes played shy of setting the school records in both categories.
Defensively, RIT is second nationally, allowing just six goals in six games, or 1.00 per contest.
Brown opens the 2014-15 season this weekend, after finishing 4-20-5 last season. The Bears return their top four scorers from last season. Sarah Robson led the team in scoring a year ago with 14 points on five goals and nine assists. Janice Yang was the team leader with seven goals. Brown was out-scored by its foes, 81-42 and will have to replace goaltender Aubree Moore, who played in 28 games last season and 76 in four years.
RIT is 6-6-1 all-time against Brown, 3-1-0 at the Division I level. Last season, the two teams split a pair of games at Ritter Arena, with RIT winning 2-1 on the first night on a pair of goals from
Celeste Brown (Great Falls, MT/National Sports Academy). The Bears came back to win in overtime, 2-1 on the second night, behind 55 saves from Moore.
Both games will be aired live (
Friday ---
Saturday) and have live stats (
