ROCHESTER, NY -- Sophomore guard
Ashlynn Palmitesso (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) scored a career high and a Clark Gymnasium-record 32 points to lead the RIT (8-7, 4-2 Liberty League) women's basketball team to a 69-59 win over Skidmore College (6-9, 1-6 Liberty League) in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon. The Tigers have won two straight games and three of their last four.
Palmitesso went 12-of-26 from the floor, including six 3-pointers. She went 2-for-2 from the foul line with five rebounds and two assists. Over the last five games Palmitesso is averaging 21.0 points per game, including 24 points Friday night versus Rensselaer. Her 32 points is just three points shy of the school record for points in a game which is 35 set by Kim Jamison back in 1995 versus Ithaca.
RIT shot 41.7 percent from the floor on 25-of-60 shooting. The Tigers were 7-of-18 from behind the arc and were 12-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland) scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while
Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) tallied 10 points.
The first half was back-and-forth throughout with six ties and six lead changes. RIT took control with a 15-0 run over the final 6:49, leading 35-22 at the half. Palmitesso scored 11 of RIT's 15 points, including three straight 3- pointers.
Palmitesso led RIT with 17 first-half points on 6-of-12 shooting, including three three pointers. Wheeler added six points, while Tennant scored five for RIT who shot 39.4 percent from the floor.
Skidmore opened the second half with an 11-2 run, pulling to within 37-33 on a three pointer by Molly McLaughlin with 16:07 to play in the second half. The Thoroughbreds would get no closer as RIT extended their lead back to 14 points on a jumper by #

Skidmore shot 39.3 percent from the floor on 22-of-56 shooting. The Thoroughbreds went 7-of-20 from behind the arc, and were 8-of-14 from the foul line. Angela Botiba led Skidmore with 14 points. Jordyn Wartts scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while McLaughlin finished with 11 points.
RIT is off until Friday, January 31 when the Tigers face Clarkson University in Liberty League action at 6 p.m. in Potsdam, N.Y.
