Women's soccer opens conference play with 2-0 win at Clarkson to extend unbeaten streak to six games

POTSDAM, NY – The RIT (6-1-2, 1-0-0 Liberty League) women's soccer team opened Liberty League play with a 2-0 win over Clarkson University (3-6-0, 0-1-0 Liberty League) on a sunny, warm, Saturday afternoon in Potsdam, New York. Freshman Anka Parzych (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and junior Sierra Kiss (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) each scored for the Tigers, who extended their unbeaten streak to six games.

Shots were 10-6 in favor of the Tigers. RIT took four corner kicks to three for the Golden Knights. Amanda Murray (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) picked up her fifth shut out win of the season, making one save. Kim Kenline took the loss in net for Clarkson, making two saves.

RIT's defense has allowed just two goals in nine games this season.

RIT broke through in the 42nd minute on Parzych's first collegiate goal. She scored off a short pass from Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) past a diving Kenline from 10 yards out.

Kiss made it 2-0 RIT on her third goal of the season in the 80th minute. Quincey Ornellas (Moorpark, CA/Moorpark) fed Kiss who dribbled into the middle of the field and fired a left-footed shot that beat Kenline cleanly.

With the win, RIT improves to 21-5-2 all time versus Clarkson, including five straight wins. The Tigers have not lost to Clarkson since the 2007 season.

RIT returns to action next Friday, Oct. 4 when the Tigers face Bard College in Liberty League action from Annandale-on-Hudson, New York at 4 p.m.
