ROCHESTER, NY – Five different players scored goals, as the RIT women's hockey team rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Jr. Aeros in the 2013-14 exhibition opener in front of 311 fans at Ritter Arena on Friday evening.

Brooke Stoddart (Elmvale, Ontario/Elmvale)# made seven saves on nine shots in her collegiate debut.
RIT was 2-for-6 with the man-advantage, while Toronto was 1-for-6. RIT out-shot the Aeros, 33-20.
Jessica Gazzola and Taytum Clairmont scored third period goals for the Aeros, who have eight players on their roster committed to Division I schools in 2014-15. Brynna Kerr made 17 saves on 18 shots over the first 31 minutes before Lindsay Wray took over and stopped 11-of-15 shots.
"Nerves definitely played a factor, but we looked better as the game wore on," said RIT Head Coach #
Scott McDonald#. "Even though we were the older team, we definitely looked young at times. I liked our energy and work ethic, but we have a lot to work on."
The Tigers scored the lone goal of the opening period to lead 1-0 after 20 minutes of play, out-shooting Toronto, 14-8.
Toronto had two good chances early on. Jesse Eldridge had a one-timer from the slot that Binnington smothered, then Gazzola had a great chance on a power-play later in the frame that Binnington also turned away without a rebound.
The Tigers got on the board at the 7:51 mark, as Zach was the recipient of a perfect passing play while on the power-play. Paton held the puck up at the left point and fired a pass to Kunichika on the left side. Kunichika one touched the pass across to Zach, who deftly redirected the puck over Kerr for the tally.
RIT had a golden chance to go up 2-0 in the final minutes of the period on the power-play, as McCrea fired a pass from behind the net to Brown, who was robbed in close by Kerr.
The Tigers scored twice in a span of 2:20 late in the second period to take a 3-0 lead into the intermission after 40 minutes of play.
Just 15 seconds into the period, Zach made a bid for her second tally of the game on a breakaway, but Kerr made a nice shoulder save to keep it 1-0.
Toronto had a tremendous chance midway through the period, as a shot by Sabrina Repaci was stopped by Rackleff, but the rebound laid in the crease for nearly 10 seconds before it was swept away by a Tiger.
Brown gave RIT the important 2-0 lead with 4:59 left in the period, as she swept in a rebound of her own shot past Wray. #
Lindsay Stenason (Oakville, Ontario/Appleby Collegiate) and
Taylor Thurston (Kanata, Ontario/All Saints Catholic)# assisted on the goal.
Just 2:20 later, Maugeri one-timed a perfect pass from Kunichika from the slot to make it 3-0 Tigers. Paton fed a pass down low to Kunichika, who then fed Maugeri in the slot. Falling down, Maugeri fired the perfect shot off the right goal post and in.
McCrea gave RIT a 4-0 lead 4:20 into the third period, wiring a shot from the slot off a faceoff win by Waites.
Toronto got on the board at the 7:06 mark, as Gazzola stripped the puck from a Tiger defenseman at the blue line skated in and went around Stoddart to break up the shut out.
Scoyne tallied a power-play goal with 10:19 left, blasting a shot from the left point past Wray for the goal. Waites and #
Cassie Clayton (Pickering, Ontario/PEAC School)# assisted on the goal.
Clairmont completed the scoring with a power-play goal at the 15:42 mark, tapping in a goal mouth feed from Amanda Pantaleo.
Today's game was the first meeting between the two teams.
RIT opens the regular season tomorrow, Sept. 28 with a road game at No. 3 Clarkson that gets underway at 4 p.m.
