Women's lacrosse opens Liberty League play with shutout win over Bard



ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (6-2, 1-0 Liberty League) women's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play with an impressive 23-0 win over Bard College (4-3, 0-1 Liberty League) on Friday afternoon on RIT's Turf Field. The 23 goals are a season-high for the Tigers and the shutout is the second in two seasons vs. Bard.

The Tigers dominated throughout, out shooting Bard 39-12, and won the ground ball battle 31-18. RIT was 16-of-17 on clearing attempts, while Bard was 10-of-17 on clears.

Senior #Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and sophomore (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)Marlee Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa)# led RIT with five points apiece. Vakiener tallied four goals and added an assist, while Vlassis scored three goals and had two assists. Freshman #Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima)# scored four goals, while fellow freshman #Holly Leone (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) scored three goals. (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)Megan Henriksen (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)#, #Ashleigh Caruso (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool)#, and #Devin Villagomez (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) all had two goals apiece. (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)Carly Augustyn (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili) added a goal and two assists. (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# picked up her sixth win of the season, making 10 saves.

Freshman Mary-Elizabeth Clair had three shots, including two on goal, a ground ball, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Maddy Huggins took the loss on net for the Raptors, making 12 saves.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, March 30 when the Tigers host Vassar College at 3 p.m. on RIT's Turf Field.
