RIT women's lacrosse holds off Endicott; Tigers beat Gulls 15-10



ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (5-1) women's lacrosse team rallied past Endicott College (2-2) 15-10 in non-conference action from RIT's Turf Field on Sunday afternoon. Tied 10-10 with 10:29 to play, RIT rattled off five straight goals giving the Tigers its third straight win.

Senior #Shelby Vakiener (Fairport, NY/Fairport) led RIT with eight points on six goals and two assists. (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)Sage Sarkis (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima)# scored four goals, #Marlee Vlassis (Syracuse, NY/East Syracuse Minoa) and Holly Leone (Centerport, NY/Harborfields) each had two goals. (Silver Spring, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel)Katelyn Crane (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon)# picked up her fifth win of the season for the Tigers, making 13 saves.

Holly Davis led Endicott with four goals. Lauren Todd had two goals and two assists, while Callie Murphy and Caitlin Pratt each had two goals and an assist for the Gulls. Rachel Socolow took the loss in net, allowing 15 goals and making four saves.

Endicott held advantages in shots (28-27), ground balls (28-20), and draw controls (17-10). RIT went 4-for-8 on free position attempts, while Endicott went 1-for-7. The Gulls turned the ball over 17 times, to 14 for the Tigers.

Trailing 6-4 at the half, Endicott scored the first two goals of the second half, tying the score on Pratt's fifth goal of the season at 6-6.

#Loren Azlein (Cleveland, OH/Gilmour Academy)# and Vakiener scored consecutive goals for RIT at the 19:52 mark of the second half, giving the Tigers an 8-6 lead.

The Gulls answered back with three straight goals, two from Davis and one from Murphy, giving Endicott their first lead of the game at 9-8.

#Carly Augustyn (Spencerport, NY/Churchville-Chili)# tied the game with a goal off an assist from Leone with 11:52 to play, tying the score at 9-9. Vlassis scored on a free position attempt with 11:35 to play, giving RIT a 10-9 lead.

Todd tied the game at 10-10 with 10:29 to play off an assist from Kelly Tierny with her fifth goal of the season.

That would the last goal for the Gulls as RIT scored five straight goals to close out the game, winning 15-10. Vakiener had three of RIT's five goals down the stretch, while Sarkis and Leone had the other two.

RIT is off until Tuesday, March 26 when the Tigers host Nazareth College at 4 pm.
