ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's hockey team ventures south to play a pair of Atlantic Hockey Association road contests at Robert Morris on Friday and Saturday. Both games from 84 Lumber Arena will get underway at 7:05 p.m. Both teams are jockeying for positioning in the bunched up AHA standings. Robert Morris is tied for sixth with 19 points, while RIT is tied for eighth, just one point behind the Colonials. Just three points separate the third and tenth place teams.
RIT (9-12-5, 7-8-4 AHA) is looking to build off of last Saturday's season-best 7-1 win over Connecticut. In that contest, seven different players scored, while seven players had at least a pair of points. Sophomore forward
Anthony Hamburg (Phoenix, AZ/Omaha Lancers) recorded a career-high three points on a goal and two assists, while
Brad Reid (Delta, British Columbia/Coquitlam Express),
Matt Garbowsky (St. George, Ontario/Powell River Kings), and
Brad McGowan (Langley, British Columbia/Surrey Eagles) tied career-highs with two points apiece. In goal,
Jordan Ruby (Tavistock, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) made 24 saves to record his second win of the season.
RIT has the nation's top power-play, clicking at 26.0 percent (25-for-96) on the season. The Tigers are 11th nationally in scoring, averaging 3.31 points per game.
Chris Saracino (St. Louis, MO/Green Bay Gamblers) is the second highest scoring defenseman in all of Division I, with 24 points on seven goals and 17 assists. RIT is generating tremendous scoring depth, as 12 players have at least 10 points. Six Tigers have between 19 and 24 points.
Jeff Smith (Spokane, WA/Tri-City Storm),
Adam Mitchell (Crofton, MD/Baystate Breakers), and
Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) lead the team with 10 goals apiece.
Robert Morris enters this weekend's contests looking to get back into the win column after falling at home to Mercyhurst on Tuesday by a score of 8-1. Last weekend, Robert Morris swept Sacred Heart by scores of 6-3 and 7-4. Adam Brace leads the Colonials in scoring with 27 points on 10 goals and 17 assists. Cody Wydo has a team-high 12 goals. Robert Morris has outscored its opponents, 75-73 this season. In net, Eric Levine has seen the bulk of playing time. Levine is 13-8-2 with a 2.55 goals against average and .933 save percentage to go along with three shutouts.
RIT is 2-4-3 all-time against the Colonials. On Oct. 25, Robert Morris defeated RIT at Ritter Arena, 6-4.
Brad Shumway (Lafayette, CO/Chicago Steel) and
Nolan Descoteaux (Dallas, TX/South Shore Kings) recorded three points apiece in the loss for the Tigers, while Ruby made 33 saves. Robert Morris out-shot RIT, 39-38. Zach Hervato tallied a goal and three assists for the Colonials.
RIT is looking for its first win at 84 Lumber Arena, previously going 0-3-1. The Tigers did defeat Robert Morris in Pittsburgh, but that victory came at CONSOL Energy Center, home of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins on Dec. 30, 2010.
