Women's basketball snaps Skidmore winning streak with 64-62 win Friday night



ROCHESTER, NY -- Senior #Leslie Havens (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton)# layup with :20 seconds to play in regulation proved to the game winner as the RIT (6-12, 3-7 Liberty league) beat Skidmore College (11-9, 9-2 Liberty league) in Liberty League action Friday night. The win by RIT snaps a seven game winning streak by the Throughbreds who came into Friday first in the conference standings.

Havens drove the lane with time winding down in regulation, laying the ball in to give RIT a two point lead. After a Skidmore timoeout, Skylar Caligaris went to inbounds the ball, but #Jess Kramer (Fayetteville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt)# intercepted the pass and fell on the ball to help secure the win for the Tigers.

#Kayla Wheeler (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa)# led RIT with 15 points, while #Courtney Tennant (Cortland, NY/Cortland)# added 13 points for the Tigers who move to 3-7 in conference play. Havens scored eight points and had four steals, while Kramer finished with nine points.

Angela Botiba led Skidmore with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jordyn Wartis added 13 points and seven rebounds who had a seven game winning streak snapped.

RIT shot 46.3 percent from the floor on 25-of-54 shooting. The Tigers were 5-of-15 from behind the arc and made 9-of-13 foul shots.

Skidmore held a 44-29 rebounding edge, shooting 37.5 percent from the floor for the game.

RIT returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 2 when the Tigers host Rensselaer at 2 pm.
