ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT wrestling team (1-1) dropped its first dual meet of the 2013-14 season, falling to No. 7 Ithaca (3-0) by a score of 26-9 at Clark Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. It was a very competitive match, with eight of the nine completed bouts ending by decision.

#Brad Mayville (Marion, NY/Wayne)# improved to 18-3 in 2013 by defeating Ithaca's Eamonn Gaffney 2-1 at 149 lbs. for RIT's first points of the evening. The match was scoreless into the final period before Mayville scored the two points on a near fall. Gaffney cut the lead to 2-1 with an escape in the final minute, but Mayville stayed strong to hang on.

At 174 lbs., #Nick Fisk (Las Cruces, NM/Mayfield)# pulled out a big win, 7-3, over Ithaca's Steven Sabella. Up 3-2 in the third period, Fisk got a big take down to go up 5-2. After Sabella escaped out to cut Fisk's lead to 5-3, it came down to the wire. Sabella nearly had a take down in the final seconds to tie, but Fisk was able to keep him at bay and get a takedown of his own for the final result.

In the next match, #Tyler Brent (Gasport, NY/Royalton-Hartland)# earned the decisive point in overtime to defeat Ithaca's Liam Korbul, 3-2 for RIT's third win of the evening.

RIT closes out the 2013 calendar year with a pair of dual meets on the campus of Cortland State on Sunday. At 12 p.m., the Tigers take on Sullivan County Community College and at 2:30, face Cortland State.
