Men's hockey looks to get into the win column with road contests at Mercyhurst and Robert Morris this weekend

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT men's hockey team heads to Pennsylvania for a pair of games against Atlantic Hockey Association foes this weekend. On Friday, the Tigers take on Mercyhurst University at the Mercyhurst Ice Center and on Saturday, face Robert Morris University at 84 Lumber Arena. Both road contests start at 7:05 p.m.
 
RIT will look for its first win of the 2013-14 season this weekend. Last Friday, RIT opened up league play with a 2-0 home loss to Air Force. Despite firing 39 shots on goal, the Tigers could not solve Air Force goaltender Jason Torf. At 0-4-2, this is RIT's slowest start in nine Division I seasons.
 
Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) leads the team in scoring with six points on four goals and two assists in six games. In net, Jordan Ruby (Tavistock, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) has appeared in all six games and has a 3.59 goals against average and a .887 save percentage.
 
Mercyhurst enters Friday's contest with a 2-5-1 mark after a 2-0 trouncing of Air Force on Nov. 2 in their AHA opener. The Lakers have been outscored 31-24 this season, and Matthew Zay leads the team in scoring with 10 points on four goals and six assists. Daniel O'Donoghue has a team-best five goals. In goal, Jimmy Sarjeant has taken control of the starting job. He is 2-2-1 with a 2.80 goals against average and .917 save percentage.
 
Like RIT, Robert Morris enters the weekend looking for its first victory of the season. On Friday, the Colonials host Canisius. Last time out, Robert Morris fell at home to Penn State, 5-4. Cody Wydo scored all four Robert Morris goals in defeat. They are 0-1-1 in league play, having tied Niagara, 3-3 on Oct. 19. The Colonials have been outscored 23-15 this season. Wydo leads the team in scoring with seven goals and eight points this season. Scott Jacklin and Zac Lynch have six points each. In goal, Rochester native Terry Shafer is 0-5-1 with a 4.36 goals against average and .886 save percentage.
 
RIT is 30-15-6 (14-6-3 at the DI level) versus Mercyhurst and 3-5-3 all-time against Robert Morris.  RIT went 2-1-0 against Mercyhurst and 1-2-0 against Robert Morris last season. The Tigers are 9-1-1 in their last 11 games at the Mercyhurst Ice Center, dating back to the 2006-07 season. RIT is 1-4-1 all-time at 84 Lumber Arena.

RIT was picked to finish fifth in the 2013-14 AHA preseason poll, while Mercyhurst was selected to place tied for second, and Robert Morris, seventh.
