Men's hockey returns to conference play with pair of games at Sacred Heart this weekend

ROCHESTER, NY –
The RIT men's hockey team returns to conference play this weekend with a pair of games at Sacred Heart University. Friday's game at the Milford Ice Pavilion will begin at 4:05 p.m., while Saturday's contest starts at 3:05 p.m.
 
The Tigers look to extend their winning streak after recording a 6-4 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday. Brad McGowan (Langley, British Columbia/Surrey Eagles) had a goal and two assists, while Dan Schuler (Webster, NY/Powell River Kings) scored a pair of goals. In net, Mike Rotolo (Rochester, NY/Cedar Rapids Roughriders) picked up his first collegiate win, stopping 26 shots.
 
Schuler was named the AHA Player of the Week and Todd Skirving (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Sioux Falls Stampede) earned Rookie of the Week honors on Tuesday. Schuler scored five goals in three games last week, while Skirving recorded six points on a goal and five assists. Skirving has seven points over a four-game point-scoring streak (2-5-7).
 
RIT is being out-scored by its opponents 42-29 this season. Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ontario/Lindsay Muskies) leads the team in scoring with 11 points on six goals and five assists. Six other players have seven points.
 
Sacred Heart (4-8-0, 3-3-0 AHA) enters the weekend riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping Army by scores of 6-5 and 4-1. Justin Danforth tallied four points in the weekend sweep, and leads the team in scoring with 12 points (2-10-12) in 12 games. Sacred Heart is being out-scored by its opponents, 46-26, led by Drew George and Will Rayner who each have a team-best four goals. In goal, Alex Vazzano has played in nine games, going 2-6-0 with a 3.93 goals against average and an .891 save percentage. Andrew Bodnarchuk is 2-2-0 with a 3.46 goals against average and an .879 save percentage.
 
RIT is 14-4-0 all-time against the Pioneers, including a seven-game unbeaten streak (6-0-1). Last season, RIT defeated the Pioneers by scores of 5-3 and 5-2 at Ritter Arena. Colavecchia has 11 points (7-4-11) in his last four games against the Pioneers, including a hat-trick on Jan. 14, 2012.
